Field Trips

At Trillium, we view field trips not as interruptions to learning but as essential extensions of it. They serve as powerful experiential learning opportunities and present rich, real-world contexts where students practice social-emotional and executive functioning skills in a dynamic environment.

In alignment with our growth mindset value, these opportunities increase our students’ confidence in navigating new and unfamiliar environments, contributing to their feelings of independence and self-efficacy.

Social Emotional

Students build social awareness and relationship skills as they navigate shared experiences, practice communication in new settings, and collaborate with peers and adults outside the classroom. They practice emotional regulation when encountering unexpected situations, such as delays, sensory stimuli, or changes in routine and gain experience in advocating for themselves.

Executive Function

Students use time management, planning, organization, and working memory — from preparing materials to staying with a group to following multi-step directions. They must adapt to new environments, switch tasks flexibly, and maintain self-monitoring and behavioral control in less structured settings.

High School Trip

Each spring, high school students participate in a multi-day overnight trip designed to deepen community, practice independent living, and engage in immersive learning. Past trips have included week-long coastal explorations focused on ecology, culture, and environmental systems.

Past Field Trips

Some of our students’ favorite trips in the 2025-2026 school year have been visiting Bob’s Corn and Pumpkin Farm, petting ducks and chickens at Seattle Children’s Playgarden, and flexing their creativity at TinkerTopia.
