High School

At Trillium, our High School schedule balances engaging academics, creative exploration, and executive functioning development to prepare students for life beyond Trillium. Mornings follow a five-day class schedule, while afternoons follow a four-day schedule (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). Wednesdays feature a double block of Flex Day activities.

Core Subjects

Students engage in each of their core academic courses three or four times a week. Courses are strategically scheduled to promote integrated learning to strengthen skill development and concept retention through discovered connections.

English Language Arts (ELA) and History invite students into inquiry-based exploration through rich topics and peer-to-peer discussion. Themes, concepts, and ideas often flow between classes, encouraging reflection on how individuals fit within society and culture, both locally and globally.

In Science and Mathematics, students engage in problem-solving, sequential processing, experimentation, collaboration, communication, and resilience. These subjects promote systematic thinking and help students understand how the world operates—reinforcing that a wrong answer is simply another step toward deeper understanding.

World Language offers students the opportunity to step beyond their own culture and reflect on it through a different lens while developing a valuable skill for engaging in a broader, global community. We offer three levels of Spanish and support students enrolled in approved external language programs, providing time during the school day to work on those independent courses.

Enrichment

Real World Skills Advising helps students build the independence and confidence needed to navigate both school and life beyond by developing and practicing essential life and executive functioning skills. This class period also serves as an advisory period, time for college counseling, and one-on-one or small-group teaching as needed.

Students choose from Movement courses such as Yoga or P.E., and interest-based activities like Studio Arts, Playwriting, Design Lab/Makers, Performing Arts, and Computer Programming.

Passion Period is a time for personal and self-guided projects. With support from dedicated staffulty, students dive into areas of strong personal interest. This project-based time allows students to practice the EF, SEL, and academic skills they’ve developed throughout Trillium’s integrated curriculum.

Flex Day

Wednesdays provide a break from traditional academics, offering high school students an afternoon designed for exploration and growth. Through hands-on activities, social learning, and interest-driven projects, students often express parts of themselves that may not be as readily available to them in the classroom. Flex Day fosters curiosity, connection, and whole-child development.
