Save the Date: Graduation & Moving Up Ceremony
Tuesday, June 9, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm

We'll celebrate our graduating seniors and our 8th graders moving up to high school on Tuesday, June 9 at Theater off Jackson. More information will be shared in a future newsletter.
Highlights from the Classroom
Middle School Service Trip
On Flex Day, our middle school students volunteered at Byrd Barr Place's food pantry. They stocked the shelves with fresh produce and canned goods and packed 85 grocery boxes to be delivered to folks around Seattle.

A few comments overheard on the way home: "That was fun AND we gave back to the community," and "I'd rather do that than tech lunch!"

High School Biology
Students in Mari's biology class are learning about cells. In December, they built cell models with pipe cleaners to learn more about the components of a cell's structure.
Important Information
Upcoming No School Dates

There will be no school on Monday, January 5, for a staffulty in-service day; Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; and Friday, January 23, for an end-of-quarter grading day.
Inclement Weather Policy

As we start to experience winter weather, we wanted to share a few highlights from our Inclement Weather and Emergency Closures policy, found in our handbook.

Trillium Academy will be open as usual unless there is an announcement of closure or delay. In most cases, Trillium Academy will follow the emergency closure and delay schedule for Seattle Public Schools. For example, Trillium Academy will also be canceled if Seattle Public Schools are canceled. If Seattle Public Schools have a two-hour late start, Trillium Academy will also have a two-hour late start. We will send notifications of closures and delays via email, text, and website banners.
Students
High School Experience for 8th Grade Students
Thursday, January 8

Our 8th-grade students will have a chance to experience a morning in Trillium's high school this Thursday. Students will connect with our High School Dean, Gen Norwood, along with other teachers and students. This is a great time for students to ask questions of their peers and future teachers and hear from select students about their own transition to high school. 8th graders will also have the opportunity to sign up to shadow a high school class in the coming weeks. This "High School Experience" will take place during the school day, so families don't have to make additional arrangements.
High school students Charlie L., Dash, Ethan, Levi, Liam, Micah, Sammy, Sebastian, Shea, TJ, and Troy will share their plays in our Second Annual Playwright Festival on Friday, January 9.
Extracurriculars
Sunday Chess Club
January 11, 25; February 1, 8; March 1, 8, 15, 29

This is an opportunity for students to learn about the game while developing skills and strategies, and connect with their peers. Chess Club is open to students in grades 5-12 from other area schools.

Taught by Dr. Leo Stefurak, Chess Club will meet on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Classes are $35 a session—you can [sign up](https://ysm8sxhbb.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001RyxB3mp4r8RF2gKogn_bhYtavaYXvgWHzRf059vbOtw5AlAqXefduRl2J3pYqdxumh-fsr60NJT0DWLd5_UUTgwWPFgFdxHTL8BE5EKRuqoWuKgHarmMMCNdLneCWeZjShIsPASQCyFWYdOdUhUryPpLNZ_7XMwnQueD4QqvKpByLR_4iCKpJlwQqZLMzstYYwzmUkOlYCk=&c=rqPTuLC0buITGQJCxQJoHhb1qO8md3nX7zNCnaIjGBnQeysFfyi6Aw==&ch=_V-1ydmaj6U41nrcQV2GkprD7qY_UyZiBJkZ-J-mpIDriFAbIpTorw==) for one or a few sessions at a time, or you can sign up for all 8 sessions up front.

Note: The club will not meet on January 18, February 15 & 22, and March 22 due to school breaks.
Magic: The Gathering Club
Mondays, January 26 through April 6 (no group February 16 or March 23) from 3:30 to 5:30 pm

Garrison Brain is hosting another Magic: The Gathering club after school on Mondays this winter. This is an opportunity for students to engage with their classmates in a card-based tabletop game. Register for [Magic Club](https://ysm8sxhbb.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001RyxB3mp4r8RF2gKogn_bhYtavaYXvgWHzRf059vbOtw5AlAqXefducn3-_Ea7cvnMbEmtbLEBiJOCn05Gre9D4dIfqsTqovRTk4KtOEZaezxcG8o6hSeYb8oqxuvi22qkJ5XNRMGxRrzJWJJ5xCrsqwE9SmcCgiafa9DMbcszbLUDYsF2DqH4lwrND-yU-zN2_ygAqaPAqM7sXTvv6MsdKlEVLlR8b40&c=rqPTuLC0buITGQJCxQJoHhb1qO8md3nX7zNCnaIjGBnQeysFfyi6Aw==&ch=_V-1ydmaj6U41nrcQV2GkprD7qY_UyZiBJkZ-J-mpIDriFAbIpTorw==) here.
