Trans Day of Visibility Panel

Our School Counselor, Meg Winn, has organized a panel to honor Trans Day of Visibility on Tuesday. Advisors will share more information with students before the panel discussion on Monday.
Staffing Update




Our Development & Communications Specialist, Evans Ousley, has shared with us that she's moving on to the next step in her journey. Her last day with us will be Tuesday, March 31, and we're excited to bring on Megan Smithwick as an interim to carry on Evans' work in communications and development while we hire for a new permanent position. Please read her note to the community below.




From Evans: I'm so grateful for my time at Trillium and for being able to partner with everyone on staff to tell our school's story. As I leave, I'm excited to know that our website now accurately articulates who we are, the students we serve, and how we do it. It's truly been a privilege to contribute to Trillium's start-up phase.




My husband and I are planning to move closer to family later this year, and I've been offered a position that will allow for that while also helping me take the next step in my career. Thank you all for welcoming me into the Trillium community last spring. I'll continue to cheer you all on from afar!

We're hosting a school dance for the current 8th - 12th graders at Trillium Academy! The Theater will be open with DJ Brain & Emma for dancing and food, colored lights, and fun! The Community Room will have a movie playing, and we'll have a photo booth set up in the downstairs hallway! There will be no dress requirements, however some may choose this opportunity to dress more formally.

TIPS Tutoring Program




We are piloting a Tutor program through TIPS and have worked with them to hire a part-time tutor, Emily, for six hours per week starting this week on Thursday, through June 3. Our intent with this model is to have targeted small group and one-on-one instruction available to plug into classes for identified students who need the extra support. We advertised this tutoring position to be targeted to writing and math support, based on the needs that we knew existed with our current classes and students.




Emily is familiar with the autistic/ADHD community as well as math and independent school settings. She has 25 years of experience in math teaching and tutoring at the Bush School, Latin School of Chicago, and Horace Mann School. She started this week and is supporting the middle school science classes with writing and study skills support, and the high school math classes.

Sunday Chess Club

Chess Club with Coach Leo continues this spring! This is an opportunity for students to learn about the game while developing skills and strategies, and connect with their peers. Chess Club is open to students in grades 5-12 from other area schools.




Taught by Dr. Leo Stefurak, Chess Club will meet on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Summer Camps




Our teachers are taking a real summer break this year, so we won't be offering summer camps as we have in years past. Instead, we're partnering with Dr. Joshua Gladstein (an OT who works with many of our students on campus each week) to bring you summer camps on Trillium's campus.

Tech use is a common concern for our parents, and we are offering a new parent education and connection series in partnership with Daniel Oglivie, our part-time counselor who specializes in video gaming addiction. The first few sessions will include presentations on screen compulsion, tech use disorder vs. addiction, and Trillium's approach to mitigating tech issues. Later sessions will evolve based on the group's interests and needs, focused on collaborative discussion.
