Tech use is a common concern for our parents, and we are offering a new parent education and connection series in partnership with Daniel Oglivie, our part-time counselor who specializes in video gaming addiction. The first few sessions will include presentations on screen compulsion, tech use disorder vs. addiction, and Trillium's approach to mitigating tech issues. Later sessions will evolve based on the group's interests and needs, focused on collaborative discussion.
We understand that mornings can be difficult for some parents, and we chose this time based on Daniel's part-time schedule with Trillium. There will be a remote option available for parents who cannot join in person (or who need to review the meeting notes and slide decks at a later date). On Monday, January 26, we will have three new students joining our middle school for semester two! Please welcome new 5th graders, Fern and her mother, Skylar Brett, and Max Schulze and his parents, Jeremy Schulze and Kaitlyn Marx; and welcome a new 8th grader, Cornelius Sachs, and his parents, Liz and Matthew Sachs.

This Week's Highlights
Middle School
During break time, students often get make up their own games. This week, middle school students took Risk game pieces and developed a collaborative, creative game adjacent to Risk.
High School
On the field trip to Tacoma this week, high school students enjoyed a wide range of exhibits at the Washington State History Museum, from a train exhibit to Gilded Age clothing. A game of bingo with questions like "a historical figure you suspect might be 2e" encouraged students to read descriptions and engage with the content.

Washington State History Museum, January 29
Middle school students will travel to Tacoma for the "Dressing in the Gilded Age" exhibit. More details will be shared via Toddle.
High School
The Northwest African American Museum, January 29
Students will visit NAAM, located in the Central District. Current exhibits include Selma is Now: The March for Justice Continues and Freedom of Expression, which features a variety of Black artists.
Real World: Financial Literacy, January 30
Ron Palmer, Vice President and Branch Manager of Banner Bank Magnolia, will speak to 11th and 12th-grade students in Real World about the importance of financial literacy.

Sunday Chess Club
January 25; February 1, 8; March 1, 8, 15, 29
This is an opportunity for students to learn about the game while developing skills and strategies, and connect with their peers. Chess Club is open to students in grades 5-12 from other area schools.
Taught by Dr. Leo Stefurak, Chess Club will meet on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Magic: The Gathering Club
