We hope to see you there!
Meet Trillium's Newest Staffulty Members!

We are delighted to introduce four new staffulty members joining us for the 2025-2026 school year! Megan Winn, our school counselor, will start on August 1 with our Deans of Students, Alexander Stern and Gen Norwood. Our other new staffulty will start later in August as all our teachers return to prep for the new school year. You can [view our current staffulty on our website](https://ysm8sxhbb.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=00110XfR6oeOMe6reZEyi_CNS_Ajw26NO73xRG22mMtGArSJ8MZPePhsito86dL7BHAJdjzgVSNvS8-1gn6vTNB42NJtF8Akm-Strv4I-467yhyq--d21QKWejV9-0vklQQVV4ABUpGkbAFxyosFVg3-DqxL5ChjIZ25LQEdWb2suc=&c=rydnRPuPGzrcZNrVZH5vcbHciDau-T-akaYbf2aXkk3VwuxUJjDA9Q==&ch=bZen6GZ70VNmejNDkYyLbhG3q-2WPPCo9AJ1AYGykoVIH5hCpSxyeA==).
Megan Winn, School Counselor
Megan is coming to Trillium Academy after serving for several years as a counselor for the Lyle School District in southern Washington. In this role, she worked with 2e students and implemented a classroom curriculum focused on social-emotional learning, developed tailored student support plans, and supported students, teachers, and families in multifaceted ways. She holds a Bachelor’s in Health Education and has long worked in the areas of public, mental, and sexual health.
Matthew Coopersmith, Math Teacher
Most recently, Matthew taught mathematics in grades 6 through 12 at a small public school in southern Washington. He was responsible for developing, implementing, and refining the secondary math curriculum to differentiate instruction for a diverse student body. Before becoming a classroom teacher, Matthew ran a successful tutoring business specializing in mathematics. He is originally from Seattle and holds a Bachelor’s in Economics and a Master’s in Teaching. His educational philosophy is that all students are capable of engaging meaningfully with mathematics if they have the right support and structure.
Justin Engelbrecht-Larkin, Humanities Teacher
Justin holds a Bachelor’s in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from The Evergreen State College and a Master’s in Teaching from Western Washington University. He taught middle school English and Social Studies and served as Curriculum Coach at an independent school in San Francisco, California, before moving back to Washington to join Trillium this fall. He also taught students in grades 5 through 12 overseas for several years. He particularly loves integrating discovery, hands-on creating, executive functioning, independence, and proactive problem-solving into his everyday lessons.
Emma Masterman, Humanities Teacher
Emma joins Trillium with experience as a Humanities and English Language Arts classroom teacher and a tutor to 2e students. She holds a Bachelor’s in Religion and Culture, Pre-law, and Creative Writing and a Master of Teaching with English Content Endorsement. Emma’s teaching philosophy is rooted in relationship-building, inclusivity, and creativity. She focuses her curriculum on Universal Design for Learning, building student voice, and promoting student autonomy through project-based learning. She particularly enjoys implementing individualized, inquiry-driven learning opportunities.

School Building Update

This month, we finalized a lease to remain at our current location through the summer of 2028. We're excited to be able to make some longer-term plans now that we know where our home will be for the next 3 years. As we prepare for the school year, we're making small improvements to better fit our space needs for classrooms, offices, and student support.

If you are interested in helping out with some of these updates, including painting walls, garden work, and moving classroom materials, email [volunteers@trilliumacademy.org](mailto:volunteers@trilliumacademy.org).

### What You Missed on Socials:

This week, Garrison and Coach Chris are taking campers around Seattle to explore the city! Up first was a morning at the bowling alley, and the students are already laying out their case for a bowling field trip on Flex Day next year. Safe to say it was a hit! 🎳💥
